Top-notch rendering workflow for landscape designers | Speed up visualization with D5 Render

A D5 Render User Interview with Yuase
Landscape design | Architectural rendering | Workflow | 3ds Max
Yuase is a landscape visualization company and just like its competitors, it is always seeking for better ways of rendering. Discovering D5 Render as real-time render software, they see the potential in it and decided to switch right away.
In this article, learn about how they make the most of this next-gen workflow with D5 Render.

1.
Better Working Experience

We first used D5 Render for landscape rendering one and a half years ago, and found it quite easy to get started with. It took our team less than 3 months to really use D5 for business projects.
Our current workflow is: SketchUp/3ds Max + D5 + PS.
Unlike traditional workflow, we have a different way of carrying out a project in our office. Rendering starts in D5 once the basic modeling work is done. Meanwhile, the modeling team will further improve the models with details that can be later updated in D5. We don't have to wait for another colleague to finish all the work until we can get hands on rendering. In D5, modeling and rendering is almost simultaneous, streamlining the overall workflow.
After testing with multiple projects, we've come to a conclusion that this workflow works best, fastest for us.
D5's integration with modeling software is quite satisfactory. Whether the models are SketchUp files from our clients, or 3ds Max models that we made ourselves, they can be imported into D5 with just one click. Live sync really comes in handy. Once there's any change to the models, we can update directly to D5 rather than take the time to import new ones and adjust in D5 again. While syncing with the plugin known as D5 Converter for SU or Max, we get to see what the scene and models are like inside D5 in real-time with high quality. What took us hours to communicate and settle now can be solved in 5 minutes. Our efficiceny has been noticeably improved with such workflow.

2.
More Assets to Choose From

When it comes to landscape design and rendering, plants and how they interact with lights are quite important. In previous projects, we mainly used Photoshop to add vegetation after the rendering process. That is not the case any more. D5 has enabled us to create a scene with all vegetation as models.
D5 preset asset library now has 2000+ vegetation assets located in detailed categories. From shrubs to broadleaf plants, you can find whatever vegetation that suits different scenes and cases of yours. For us, we have a lot of cases of large multifunctional parks with an aerial view, and D5 Library meets our needs both in quantity and quality.
For light & shade, and atmosphere creation, D5 Render is now our first and only choice. With D5's  improvement in vegetation assets, we now see a better performance of plants since they have clearer textures and you don't have to worry about the annoying white edge problems any more!
Using Geo and Sky system in D5, we can easily create a scene set at any time of the day. To add to the realism of the renderings, decals, rain and snow system in D5 also helps greatly.
When it comes to building scenes with landscape models, you can count on D5. D5 Asset Library now has 199 models in the Landscape category with more to come. To make things easier, you can use vegetation tools to brush or scatter natural models like rocks, pebbles, and shrubs.
We've done a large number of projects for B&B, cultural residence using D5, and it's obvious that renderings have come to life. We're happy with the atmosphere and effects D5 offers.

3.
Less Time Waiting, More Time Improving

We used to be Lumion users, but I have to say, plant performance in D5 is more stunning with enhanced GI to bring better visual effect for shadow occlusion on vegetation assets. With quality of VRay level, it takes only 1/10 of VRay's rendering time.
Ya An Daxing Central Park is a gigantic park project of ours. The whole visualization work: rendering, animation, and Virtual Reality was made with D5 Render. The animation output was so fast! Rendering a 10-second-long video takes almost the same time as rendering an image. Compared with other software we used before, rendering time has been shortened 5-10 times, which is a blessing because we have more time to spend on the rest of our work. We use that time either to check the details, or improve the modeling, which makes a landscape architectural rendering full of life.
I used to get stuck at rendering when we were using other software, but now with D5, the whole process just speeds up and projects are finished within such a short time that we have a ton of time to improve our work. There was a project where we edited and rendered an animation 10  times just to get a better result. It couldn't have been possible if we were still sticking to traditional workflow.
Not only our clients but also we ourselves also benefit greatly from the working efficiency we're having now. D5 has made rendering and designing so easy for us. We as designers and rendering professionals are always too absorbed in projects to take each work seriously as a piece of art, but at this point, I'm proud to say that using D5 Render has enabled us to focus onthe design and embrace the fun part of rendering.
